Michael “Micky” K. Zumbrunnen, Jr., 70, of Superior, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Bayshore Health Center, Duluth.
He was born November 4, 1941 in Grand Rapids, Minn., son of Michael K., Sr., and Estella A. (Miller) Zumbrunnen.
He graduated from Embarrass High School in 1959.
Micky proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1966 in Berlin, Cuba and Vietnam.
On October 12, 1973 in Sioux Falls, S.D., Michael K. Zumbrunnen, Jr., and Elizabeth J. Holmes were united in marriage.
He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for various companies and was the owner of several businesses in the region including Twin Ports Recreation and Rental.
Micky was a member of the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post # 435 in Superior and the VFW in Gilbert, Minnesota.
Some of his interests included fishing, especially walleye fishing; duck and goose hunting trips; traveling and going on various cruises with Betty.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Elizabeth “Betty” in 2010; brother, Patrick; and father-in-law, Earl Holmes.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Connie) Zumbrunnen, Pleasant View, Tenn., Angelina (Chris) Scribner, Waconia, Minn., Carrie (Steve) Sutherland, Superior, and Darin (Georgene) Tisdell, Superior; grandchildren, Kayla, Kyle, Bridgette, Amanda, Kaila, April, Michael and Linzee; great-grandchildren, Ayla and Payton; aunt, Mary Gilmore, Remer, Minn.; and mother-in-law, Louise Holmes, Biwabik, Minn.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2012 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 9 until the 10 a.m. service, Tuesday, at the funeral home. Reverend Joel Huenemann, pastor of United Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Tisdell, Dan W. Holmes, Shawn Wirta, John Pfuhl, Terry Tisdell, Dan G. Holmes and Rodney Miller. Art Maki will be an honorary pallbearer.
Interment will be in Biwabik Memorial Cemetery, Biwabik, Minnesota.
