Obituary

Agnes Mae Atkinson, also known as "Jett Atkinson," lifelong resident of the northland and currently residing in Carlton, Minnesota, passed away after a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer at Essentia Hospital in Duluth, MN, on April 16, 2022.

She was born on January 29, 1962, in Superior WI the daughter of Ralph and Agnes Mae Rose Atkinson (Marken).

Jett graduated from Superior Senior High School class of 1981. Immediately after high school, she pursued a degree at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (now called Northwood Technical College) in auto mechanics. She worked on many cars and her inspiration for that was Shirley Muldowney the famous first woman to receive a License from the NHRA National Hot Rod Association www.muldowney.com retrieval 5.4.2022.

She taught her first niece how to drive and what it looks like under a hood of a car. Throughout her life she spent much of her time with family and had a wonderful sense of humor. One of the most meaningful moments in her life was the birth of her son Ricky and then later becoming a grandmother and then gaining the ultimate title of great grandmother.

Throughout her journey in life, she collected and sold antiques which not only became a hobby, it was a passion. She aspired to never let the challenge take away the sentiment even after a fire took away part of her business. After the fire, Agnes Mae's became creative in finding ways to display her merchandise.

In her younger years she was in competitive figure skating until an injury changed her trajectory of life.

Jett, as everyone called her, because she was quick on her feet and knew a lot about cars the name fitting for this reason. As her son Ricky puts it, "My mom was a free and wild spirit, never to back down from a fight."  Our belief is she made peace with the Good Lord above, in her words, "I'm heading to the great spirit in the sky."

Preceded by death by her grandmother, Mamie Marken; father, Ralph Atkinson, and mother, Agnes Rose Atkinson; and brother-in-law David Brooks-Gradine.
