Agnes Marta Bates, 94, a lifelong resident of Superior, Wis. died Thurs., September 30, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospice, Duluth, Minn.
She was born to Josine (Carlson) and Oscar Nordness on October 1, 1915 in Superior.
She was a cook for the former Middle River Sanitarium.
Her memberships include the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Salvation Army, Navy Mothers and R.S.V.P.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, George C. Perry; her second husband, Everett Bates; a son Robert Perry; a sister, Gladys Chapman; and a daughter-in-law, Jewel Perry.
Agnes is survived by three sons; Thomas (Helen) Perry of South Range, Wis., Willard Perry of Superior and Richard (Hjardis) Perry of Staples, Minn.; three daughters, Maxine Monti of Marietta, Ga., and Darlene (Archie) Burger and Bonnie Thoorsell all of Superior; twenty-one grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Nordness in Mexico; a sister, Catherine Garcia in California; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be in Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. & Ogden Ave., on Monday from Noon until the 1:00 p.m. service with Rev. G. Darrell Grant of the Superior Christian & Missionary Alliance Church officiating. The committal prayers will follow at the Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne Township.
