Albert R. Buttrick, 79, of Oliver, Wis., passed away unexpectedly at their cabin in Barnes, Wis. on June 13, 2010.
Al was born on February 14, 1931 in Claremont, New Hampshire.
He was an Air Force veteran who proudly served during the Korean War from 1951-1955.
While stationed at the Duluth Air Base he met and married the love of his life, the former Mary Jackson. Al and Mary had just celebrated 56 wonderful years of marriage.
Al retired from the Superior School District after 30 years. He greatly enjoyed the outdoor life, spending time at the cabin with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling in their motor home. He belonged to the Crafty Travelers and Star of the North, Wis. camping clubs of which he was a charter member.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Buttrick; brothers, Harold Jr. and Warren Buttrick; father and mother-in-law, Edwin and Maureen Jackson; daughter Sherry (Robert) Albright; son, Scott (Linnae) Buttrick; and sister-in-law Carole Bourassa.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Sandra (Norm) Shupe, Stacey (Edward) Carlson, Stephanie Ledoux (special friend Joe Gartner), Shawn (Lori) Buttrick and Shannon (Steven) Rawson; brother, Robert (Anita) Buttrick; sisters-in-law, Kathleen (David) Holmes and Margaret Buttrick; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his companion Pepper.
His memorial mass will be held on Friday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Ronald Olson as celebrant. Visitation will begin one hour prior to mass. Military honors will be accorded by the Superior Combined Honor Guard.
A luncheon will follow at the Oliver Town Hall.
