Alfred (Al) S. Johnson, 88, passed away at his residence on Friday, July 6, 2018. He was born in Superior on December 31, 1929 to Alfred S. and Ethel (Larson) Johnson.

He graduated from Superior Central High School, class of 1948 where he was active in sports and music.

He married his high school sweetheart, Geri Filbey on June 20, 1950 and they were blessed with four children. They recently observed their 68 ^th Anniversary.

Al began his working career as a salesman for Northwestern Hanna Fuel Company in Superior. He transferred to North Dakota for 7 years before returning to Superior. In 1964 he began a new career in the trucking industry as a broker. He ended his working years with the Jeff Foster Trucking Company where he was the first retiree for the Company in 1993.

Al's love of golf began as a teenager when he worked at the Nemadji Golf Course. He became a very good golfer, winning several trophies during his 70 years on the courses. He shot a 69 at the age of 70 and had a hole-on-one in 2007. Each fall he looked forward to deer hunting at his brother Bill's cabin in Gordon.

He was a long time member of Hope Church and his love of Christ was evident by his lifestyle. He and his wife shared their God-given musical talents at Church and many other occasions.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven, Granddaughter Shannon and brothers Bob, Don and Gene.

He is survived by his wife Geri, son Daniel (Carol) (California), daughter Kathy (Rob) Handland (Texas), Beckie Johnson (Bruce) (Superior), 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, sister Arlene Peters (Superior) brothers Jim (California), Bill (Minneapolis), Ken (Elkhorn, Wisconsin) and many special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Downs Funeral Home 1617 N 19 ^th Street, Superior.

In respect to Al's wishes, a private family service will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

Six of Al's Grandsons will be carrying their beloved Grandpa to his final resting place.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations in Al's name to any dementia organization.
