Obituary

On November 26, 2020, Alice Louise Stack passed from her life on this earth due to complications associated with COVID-19 at Superior Rehabilitation Center in Superior, Wisconsin.

Alice Louise Lacy's first chapter of life began in Glenwood, MN on December 17, 1929. She was the first child born to Edward and Julia Lacy.   Later she would be followed by two sisters, Mary and Markie.  The Lacy family life began in Superior, WI in the year 1945 due to the commitment of Ed and Julia to raise their daughters in an environment with strong educational opportunities.  The Lacy family relocated to their new family home on 16 th and Baxter Ave.  The home was close to Ed's work on the Soo line Railroad,  good schools,  a Catholic church, grocery store,  and of course, Bridgeman's Ice Cream Parlor.   Alice and her two sisters would excel academically and eventually all three would enroll and graduate from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN.  Alice's childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse would become a reality in the year 1951.

Alice's second Chapter of life began on April 18 th 1953, when she married her husband William C. Stack. Together they would raise their ten children in the big house on Hammond Ave.  No matter how hectic or busy life was at the Stack House, Alice always made time to volunteer at the Cathedral school/church,   care for her parents, Ed and Julia, and run the mechanics of the household with a gentle but iron fist.  Alice modeled the behavior, "the best service to oneself, is service to others", long before the word "modeling "ever became cliché.

When once asked by her adult child if she had any regrets in life, she responded:

"I will have to think about that and get back to you tomorrow."  Upon returning with her answer the next day, she stated:

"As a child, I always dreamed of becoming a nurse.  However, I was unable to work as a nurse after I married your father and we started a family.   But the education and knowledge that I had acquired in my nursing program allowed me to use my degree to care for you kids, your grandparents, and your Dad when he became sick.  So, I guess my answer would be, No, I have no regrets.  Sometimes you have to realize that your dreams don't always come true the way you had imagined.   But there are many ways in life to make those dreams come true."

After the passing of Alice's husband William in 1988, she became the President and CEO of Stack Bros. Mechanical Contractors in Superior, WI.  Alice's expertise in the commercial plumbing and heating service was fairly limited; however the business grew and prospered mainly because Alice always put the needs of others first and compensation was only a technicality.     In 1999, Alice retired from Stack Bros in order to pursue her greatest devotions; to serve her expanding family, community, church, local and national charities.  Her generosity was limitless.  Her children would often joke, "If you need a check… just GO ASK ALICE!"

Alice's final chapter in life was really no different than any of her previous chapters.  She remained a faithful servant to her religious belief and values.  She dedicated her energies to her ever growing family, and of course any individual that was in a time of need.    A typical phone greeting from Alice was, "How can I help you?" "Helping" was her life.

Alice is survived by her loving sisters, Mary McKenzie, and Markie Ksiazek.  Her ten children, Mary Stack Ander, William (Niari) Stack, Michael (Karen) Stack, Julie (Mike) McCoshen, Eileen (Rick) Sandahl, Daniel Stack, Anne (Brad) Laible, Paul Stack, John Stack, and Christine (Jeff) Polson.  Her sixteen loving grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The extended  Stack/Lacy families  would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and compassion shown to our mother during these last several years by her caregivers at Home Instead, the Superior Rehab Staff and the Essentia Hospice Team.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.
