Alvin S. Graskey, Sr., 91, of Superior, Wis. went to be with the Lord, his daughter, Catherine, his brother and sidekick, Leo, and most of all his beloved angel, Helen on Monday June 7, 2010.
He was born in Wakefield Mich. on February 28, 1919 to Stanley and Catherine Graskey.
Al served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.
Al loved coaching baseball with the Billings Park Chiefs and Indians Pee Wee teams. He loved fishing on the Brule River, hunting with his buddies, and woodworking with Jack O'Brien. Spending time with his family was most dear to his heart. Al would frequently comment about his family, "I wouldn't give you a dime a dozen and I wouldn't take a million for one of mine."
In 1981 Al retired from the City of Superior as a heavy equipment operator, a job that he took great pride in.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen; his daughter, Catherine; his siblings; and his parents.
Al is survived by his sons, Alvin (Rose Marie) Graskey, Jr. of Cordova, Tenn., James (Jeanie) Graskey of South Range, Wis. and George (Linda) Graskey of Superior; daughters, Margaret (Richard) Berg of Superior, Annette (Gerald) Higgins of Shafer, Minn., Karen (Dick) Bergren of Duluth, Minn., Sandy (Mike) McGinnis of Superior and Susie (Dean) Grisar of River Falls, Wis.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We were all truly blessed by having Al in our lives. He will be sadly missed by all the lives and hearts he has touched.
His funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., with Rev. Carey Vik officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Military honors will be accorded by the Superior Combined Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
