3:00 - 5:00 pm (Central time)
Andrea “Getta” Marie Gucinski, 64, of Superior died unexpectedly on Friday May 15, 2026, at Essentia-St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
Getta was born in San Bernardino, California on November 22, 1961, the daughter of James and Charlene (Ziegler) Stariha.
She graduated from Superior Senior High School class of 1979 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin Superior.
Getta was a preschool teacher for many years and was also a waitress, retiring from Gronk’s Grill and Bar.
She found joy in the simple moments of life and the people who shared them with her. She enjoyed crafting and most recently discovered a passion for creating diamond art pieces. She never passed up a chance to play a board game with anyone willing to try to beat her, and she could often be found enjoying her favorite game shows or spending time shopping with family. She was an avid football fan and loved hosting Green Bay Packer parties and preparing Jello shots to celebrate touchdowns. Some of her happiest moments were spent working on the house and listening to her favorite songs alongside her partner Bucky, creating not only a home but countless cherished memories together. She loved music by Jim Croce, Michael Jackson, and Neil Diamond to mention a few. Most important was spending time with her family, and she especially treasured every moment with her beloved grandchildren. Getta always bragged about how God gave her the best parents, brothers, and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her life partner of 36 years, Duane “Bucky” Smith; and grandson, Elias Smith.
Getta is survived by her children, Paul (Karen) Gucinski, Michelle Gucinski, and Jeffery (Tina) Smith; step-children, Duane and Nicki Smith; grandchildren, Tyler, Zander, Hannah, Lila, Aiden, Haylee, Elijah, Lyla, Ava, and Anali; siblings, Dotty (Mark) Duffy, Kathy (Michael) Payne, Jim (Rita) Stariha, Dave Stariha, and Shelly (Jack) Larsen; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Getta’s Life will be held on June 14th from 3-5 PM at the Belgian Club, 3931 East 2nd St. and all are invited to Getta and Bucky’s house after the celebration of life.
