Arthur D. Smith, Sr., 82, of Foxboro, died Saturday April 2, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth after a short illness.

Arthur was born in Superior on Nov. 23, 1928 the son of Rosie (Winter) and Arthur C. Smith.

He served his country enlisting in the Navy.

Arthur lived life's adventures to the fullest. He began working as a landscaper, he worked in logging, started his trucking career hauling to Alaska, where he also worked various jobs on the pipeline. He resumed his trucking career owning and operating his own trucks until his retirement when he started A&D Seafood selling meat and fish. Arthur enjoyed flying, riding Harley's and snowmobiling. People knew him not just for his big size but also his big heart and ready humor. He will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Christopher Smith; and Elizabeth "Betty" Smith.

Arthur is survived by his children, Rose Marie Hoffman of California, Rose Ann Smith of Austin, Minn., Kathleen Jo Ann Miller of Superior, Arthur David (Patty) Smith, Jr. of St. Cloud, Minn., Lawrence Hjelmere (Marie) Smith of Superior; and Christine Lynn (Michael) Fuller of Sarasota, Fla.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held on Thurs., April 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the Downs Funeral Home Chapel, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave., with Pastor J. Mark Wagenshutz, of Twin ports Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Interment will be in Summit Cemetery, Summit Township.

Pallbearers will be, Joe Sullivan, Richie Thompson, Terry Priem, Aaron Miller, Randy Ayers and Lenny Moen, Jr.
