Obituary

Arvid R. Stromquist, 91, of South Range, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Twin Ports Health Services in Superior.

He was born in South Range on October 13, 1931, the son of Emily (Koenen) and Ralph Stromquist.

He married Evelyn White in Carlton, MN, in November 1955 and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her passing in 2012.

Arvid proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force, in both Korea and Japan.

His work history included Lakehead Constructors, Standard Oil and retired from J.R. Jensen after 25 years as a truck driver and project manager.

To many people he was known as "Henry Ford". He loved Fords, especially the old ones. He made coil testers and coil tester boxes for his Model T's.  His Model T touring car and Model T truck were featured in the movie "Iron Will". For many decades he bought and sold parts for Model T's and Model A's. He enjoyed selling car parts in the Iola swap meet for over 30 years. He and his Fords were a PBS channel's Venture North program.

Arvid was a strong union supporter, and enjoyed snowmobiling, rummage saling, and playing UpWords with MaryLou. He was passionate about reading, especially westerns. He kept a daily journal, which always included weather conditions. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids and enjoyed making and buying them toys.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; son, Kenneth; and grandchildren, Andrew and Jeremy.

Survivors include his son, Robert (Brenda) Stromquist of South Range; daughter, Becky (Leo) Sapik of Phoenix, AZ; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; special friend, MaryLou Grimsrud of South Range; brother, Ralph (Martha) Stromquist of Oregon, WI; sister, Gloria 'Peachie' (Gerald) Maas of Gordon, WI; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. service at Country Peace Presbyterian Church, 4694 County Road A, Superior.

Burial will be at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors.

The family wishes to thank Twin Ports Health Services for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Country Peace Church in honor of Arvid.
