Audrey L Mead's Obituary
Audrey Lucille Mead, 94, of Superior, Wis. died peacefully on July 7th, 2015 at Aftenro Home in Duluth, Minn.
She was born Feb. 7th, 1921 in Superior to Arthur and Clara (Christianson) Lindberg.
Audrey graduated from Superior Central High School in 1939 and became an RN, graduating from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1942. She worked in numerous hospitals in the area, dearly loved her chosen profession and was, in fact, frequently called "Nursie", especially by her devoted grandchildren. As a longtime resident of Billings Park she enjoyed many working years at the former St. Joseph's Hospital and St. Francis Nursing Home.
She is survived by her children, Lynda (Robb) Glibbery of Duluth and Michael Mead of Superior; daughters-in-law, Charlene Mead, Joni Mead and Carol Mead; grandchildren, Peter (Linda) Glibbery, Abby (Chris) Gonko, Megan (Paul) Krikke, Elizabeth Mead, Kathryn Mead, Molly (Jason) Cardosi, Stacey (Alex) Stage and Thomas Mead; great-grandchildren, Michael (Laura) Carlsen, Eric and Jake Glibbery, Ethan and Audrey Gonko, Gabbi, Sam, Charlie, and Caroline Krikke, Gracelyn Mead, and Norah and Emilia Cardosi.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Russell; and sons, Thomas and George.
Audrey was a generous, warm, caring person who enjoyed opening her home to others. She leaves us with a legacy about family love, honesty, hard work, and thrifty behavior. Family and friends will always remember her dedication to them. Audrey enjoyed these past six months as a resident of Aftenro Home where she received compassionate, loving care. She will be greatly missed and remembered as an exceptional person, the best mother and grandmother ever.
Visitation will begin at noon on Sat., July 11th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Ave., Superior, 54880, followed by the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Sarah Kerkes will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Audrey's name may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or Aftenro Home, 510 College St., Duluth, 55811.
Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden & 19th St., is assisting the family with arrangements.
