Barbara A.
Johnson
October 10, 1939 – January 20, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Ann (Sickler) Johnson announces her passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the age of 78 years.
Barbara was born to Elmer and Marie Sickler in Minnesota, on October 10, 1939. She moved to Superior, WI as a child and stayed. It was here she met the love her life, Gerald E. Johnson. They married on September 12, 1959 and went on to have four children. She obtained her LPN nursing degree and attended the University of Wisconsin Superior. After working for several years and with four small children at home, Barb commuted to Ashland WITC to obtain her RN degree. She worked in the Emergency room at Superior Memorial Hospital, now St. Mary's, until she retired.
Barb loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Grandma was always ready and willing to play a game of cards, Yahtzee or cribbage or sit in the cold to watch a soccer or hockey game or even the extreme heat for a baseball game or a swim meet. She was an avid fan of her grandchildren's performances and loved the homemade cards and crafts they made for her. Barb loved to travel. Each year she traveled to Atlanta to be a part of the Junior Theatre Festival where she was an honorary "Golden Girl" at these events. In addition, Barb loved to golf, rarely missing a week when it was nice, crocheting, and reading.
Barb is survived by her children and their spouses: Gerald Johnson, Titusville, Fl, Cathy (Scott) Paavala, Naytahwaush, MN, Anthony (Laurie) Johnson, Rice Lake, WI and Marty Johnson, New York, NY, Grandchildren, Cody, Madison and Caleb Johnson and Joy, Elisabeth and Iris Paavala, along with Aunt Lorraine Belanger, Superior and numerous sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, daughter-in-law, Jayme, her parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday February 2 nd at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Superior, WI with Father Jim officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barb's name to your local or state Special Olympics and play a game with your favorite young people in your life.
We will miss you and always carry your memory in our hearts.
