Mary Bernadine "Berni" K. Wehner, 86, of Duluth died from "old age" (Berni's words) on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
Berni was born in Cincinnati, OH on November 14, 1938, the daughter of Bernie and Mary Rose Kohls. She went to St. Mary's Grade School and High School. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1961 with a BA degree in Psychology and Teaching fields Math & English. She then attended the Cincinnati Police Academy, Class 39 and worked for several years as a Policewoman in the Juvenile Division.
During her lifetime Berni worked various jobs including grocery clerk in her father's grocery store, a cashier at Coney Island, OH, Engineering Technician at General Electric Jet Engine Department in Evendale, OH, Clerk at various Dental Labs, English Teacher in Kouts, IN, RREM Engineering in Duluth and Upper Lakes Foods in Cloquet. Finally, her favorite job at the Duluth Assessors Office for 23 years until her retirement in 2006.
Berni's longest profession was mother and grandmother. She enjoyed going to rummage sales, playing cards, gardening and making stained glass pieces. She loved playing on the beach with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernie and Mary Rose Kohls; brother, John Kohls; sister, Paula Wedig; and grandson, Michael Wehner.
Berni is survived by her children, Laurie (Tim) Davis, Aydn Alan Stone, Toby (Rick Remsburg) Wehner, Kevin (Amy Boysen) Wehner, Mark Wehner, Teri Wehner; grandchildren, Dion (Missy) Wehner, Kyla (Tristan) Snyder, Brian (Sara) Davis, Jenna Davis, Elliott Wehner, Jada Wehner, and Braeleen Stone; great grandchildren, Roman & Rocco; and her siblings, Sister Elaine Kohls, Richard (Pat) Kohls, Rose (Dan) Gahl, Joe (Lynda Phillips) Kohls, and Dolly (John) Kohls.
Berni especially wants to thank the Park Point neighbors for their help and care, Tom and Kris Rauschenfels, Brian Nelson, and Glenn Krenelka.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 10th from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St. with Gary Banker as officiant.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Berni's name may be made to the Medical Mission Sisters , 8400 Pine Rd, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19111.
