Bernard A. "Ben" Smith III, 24, a lifelong resident of Superior, Wis. died Sat., May 7, 2011.
Ben was born in Superior to Jacqueline A. (Hansen) and Bernard A. "Oscar" Smith, Jr. on July 24, 1986. He was a 2004 graduate of Superior Senior High School.
He was a member of the Laborer's International Union of North America Local No. 1091 and was employed with Four Star Construction, Inc.
Ben had a wide interest in outdoor activities, fishing on the big lake, ice fishing, sport shooting, riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling. The family's dog, Hoss had a very special bond with Ben. The start of their strong companionship started with Ben taking him to obedience school.
He is lovingly remembered by his parents; a brother, John Henry Smith; many aunts and uncles, Elizabeth "Liz" (Marcus) Fitzgerald, Barbara "Poppy" Anderson, Berthine "Tina" (Richard Voynich) Dembroski, Margaret "Rose Bud" (Bill Olson) McIvor, Theresa "Tuna" Smith, Donna Sandlin, Sandy Previtte, George Hansen, Jr. and Allen Hansen; and several cousins and numerous friends.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Florence and George Hansen; paternal grandfather, Bernard A. Smith, Sr., paternal grandmother, Margaret A. "Marge" Brokaw; an aunt, Kathleen Marie "Bushel" Smith; and an uncle, James Edward "Jim" Daley.
The Celebration of Ben's Life will take place in the Downs Funeral Home Chapel, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., on Sat., May 14th at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Kevin Gordon officiating. The time of visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery.
