Obituary

Bernice "Bea" Fitch, 90, of Superior, Wis. died at home on Tues., Aug. 21, 2012.

She was born to Zachaus and Clothilda Kahl on the family homestead in Shields, N. D. on May 6, 1922. Her parents had arrived from Russia in 1908.

Bernice worked on the family farm until she moved to Duluth, Minn. in 1942. There she met Robert "Bob" Fitch and they were married on Dec. 21, 1943. Bernice and Bob moved to Brainerd, Minn. in 1945 and then in 1956, they moved to Superior.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, St. Francis Altar Society, Belgian Club Smear League, and the former East End Seniors Club.

Bernice liked to keep busy. Some of her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery, word find and other puzzles. She also enjoyed playing cards, going to bingo and visiting with her neighbors. She was an avid letter writer and loved receiving letters and newspaper clippings from family members. She was so proud to show off all of the birthday cards she would receive each year.

Bernice enjoyed helping others and spending time with her family. She spent many Sundays visiting and playing games with her sister, Franna. Her children and grandchildren have many fond memories of her and loved her very much. She will be truly missed by all of them.

She is survived by her daughters, Connie Rydberg of Eagan, Minn., Theresa (Jerry) Kastern and Susan (Rick) Johnson all of Superior, and Rita (Dick) Burm of Grand Forks, N. D.; grandchildren, Amy, Angie, Rich, Seth, Matt, Brent, Nicole, Luke, Cody, Kylee and Shelley; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Franna Pampy of Duluth; sisters-in-law, Helen Kahl of Bismarck, N. D., Gloria Fitch and Judy Schrader both of Brainerd; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Fitch, Sr.; a son, Robert Fitch, Jr.; a son-in-law, El Rydberg; brothers, Laurence, Nicholaus, Eusebius "Dutch", Zachaus Jr. and Joe; sisters, Susanna, Emma, Kathryn, Agnes "Sister Mary Luke", Anna and Marion.

The Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church on Fri., Aug. 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. James Tobolski as Celebrant. Visitation will take place one hour before the service.

Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St. is assisting Bernice's family with arrangements.
