Bernice K. Hanson, of Superior, passed away August 31, 2021, at age 96.  Up to her passing, Bernice lived independently in her own home.

Bernice was born July 25, 1925, in Superior, Wisconsin where she lived during her active and vibrant life.  A theme of Bernice's life was her love of people.  She is remembered as an incredibly gentle person.  She worked up until the age of 80 caring for the elderly.  After she retired, she loved visiting people in nursing homes and extended care facilities.  People in turn came to her house for coffee and her famous red velvet cake or apple pie.  Bernice also loved interacting with her fellow parishioners at Our Savior Lutheran Church.  When Bernice wasn't interacting with people, she loved watching golf on TV (although she never had played) as well as Jeopardy.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Mathilda Klarstrom; her husband of 47 years, Arthur; her son, Grant; her brother, Oscar and sisters, Lillian, Esther, Elsie, Agnes, Helen, Doris and Delores.

She is survived by her children, Janice Wall, Patricia (John) Buday, Susan (John) Servo, Robert Hanson and Bradley Hanson; her grandchildren, Shawn (Sara), Craig (Alexis), Christina (Gary), Heather, Colin and Taylor; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Gage, Leighton, Charlie, Nicolas, Kelsie, Maddie, and Melania; sister Florence Olson; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Bernice's life will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Ave., Superior, beginning with a meet & greet at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m., and luncheon to follow at noon.

As her final gift to society, her last legacy was donating her body to science at the University of Minnesota Medical School.  Her presence will be missed by many.
