Betty L. Smith's Obituary
Betty L. Smith, 86, a longtime Superior resident died Wed., March 27, 2013 in St. Francis Home in the Park.
She was born October 7, 1926 in Curtis, Wis. to Archie and Kella (Gilbertson) Ackerman.
Betty had been employed by the former St. Joseph's Hospital as a cook.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Gayken; her second husband, Daniel Smith; her parents; two sons, Russell and Kenneth Gayken; a daughter, Bonnie Thompson; a granddaughter, Lacey Gayken; and a great-great-granddaughter, Lilly Christianson.
She is survived by two daughters, Barb Thomsen of Superior and Renea (Jack) Sheff of Cloquet Minn.; a son, Keith "Skip" (Sherry) Gayken of Weston, Wis.; two sisters, Janet Steaker of Ashland, Wis. and Bernice Gosse of Dorchester, Wis.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held Thurs., April 4th from 1:00 p.m. until her memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the Downs Funeral Home Chapel, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th St., with Chaplain Virginia Baranow officiating. Inurnment will be in Pine Glade Cemetery, Oulu, Wis.
