Bonnie R.
Cox
February 3, 1935 – December 30, 2020
Bonnie Rae Cox (MacDonald), age 85, formerly of Superior, WI, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Bonnie was born February 3, 1935 in her grandparents' log home at Gordon, WI, the first child of Russell and Katherine (Gordon) MacDonald. Her grandmother, Sadie Gordon (wife of Joe) delivered her in the house which had neither electricity nor running water. Bonnie grew up in Superior and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1953; many lifelong friendships were made there. Bonnie was a lifelong member of Order of the Eastern Star in Superior, WI and had an active social life and good circle of friends throughout her lifetime.
Bonnie married Kent Lagro in 1963; they resided in Excelsior MN before returning to Superior WI with their children Brad and Laurie. Working at North Central Airlines, M&I Bank in Superior, being a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and having an active social life, Bonnie enjoyed having many dear friends and special relatives. She later moved to Las Vegas, NV, making new friends and enjoying the 'bright lights & big city' atmosphere. She enjoyed the poker machines and was pretty darn good at the sports book too! She met her second husband, Jim Cox, there; they married in 1996 and later retired to Mesa, AZ. After Jim passed away, Bonnie returned to Wisconsin to be nearer to family, residing in Solon Springs since 2010.
Preceding her in death were her parents, son Bradley Lagro, sister Kay Adair Lennon, husband James F. Cox and other beloved family members and friends.
She is survived by daughter Laurie Johnson (Mike), grandchildren Joshua Johnson, Alison Harmon, Katherine Johnson, sister Suzanne Tofteland, brothers Douglas MacDonald (Mary), Robert MacDonald, Warren MacDonald, Cameron MacDonald (Judy) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. If you were ever one of Bonnie's friends, please know that she never forgot you and always carried the memories of your 'adventures' with her always, whether it was from NWA, M&I Bank or the bank or casinos she worked at later in Las Vegas.
The family would like to express our deep gratitude and thanks to the caring staff of Middle River Health & Rehab, South Range, WI for the care provided to Bonnie over the last two years.
A memorial service will be held in July 2021 at the Gordon Memorial Cemetery, Gordon, WI; an announcement will be published in advance.
If you wish to make a memorial gift, please consider donating in Bonnie's name to the Masonic Children's Hospital of Minnesota or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
