Obituary

Bonnie Jean Young, 79, of Superior, died Friday, May 19, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth.

She was born September 23, 1937, in Superior, daughter of James Quincy Smith and Ethel Eleanor Lindholm Smith.

On October 15, 1958, she married the love of her life – Kenneth Charles Young.

For the past several years, Bonnie was a foster grandparent for the Superior School District. She loved spending her time there, and developed many special relationships with both the students and teachers.

One year after the death of her husband, Bonnie formed the Merry Widows Club.  The ladies continued to meet regularly up until her recent illness.  Bonnie was also a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary and formerly of the Women of the Moose Lodge.

Those who knew Bonnie well will remember her passion for all things Elvis and her Green Bay Packers, rarely missing one of their games.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kenneth C. Young in 2002; daughter, Dawn M. Soderlund in 2016; a brother and a sister.

Survivors are her children, Laura (David) Wesson, Sugar Land, Texas, Carole (Mike) Moss, Lake Nebagamon, WI, and Kenneth Young, Superior; grandchildren, Brionna, Corissa, Ian, Kameron, Karsen, Adam, Kyler, Devyn, Kendra and Kenny Jr.; great-grandchildren, Madeline, Connor, Ashton, Carter, Dylan, Luke, Vance and Jackson; sister, Donna (John) Hillestad, St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and celebration of life will begin at 4 p.m. and conclude at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19 th Street, Superior. In memory of Bonnie's wholehearted enthusiasm of her Green Bay Packers, the family requests that guests don their favorite "Green and Gold".
