Bruce Cameron Hagen passed away peacefully on July 26th, 2019 in Sun City Center, Florida after a lengthy illness. He was born to Lawrence and Inez (McLaughlin) Hagen on June 17th, 1946 in Superior, WI
Bruce graduated from East High School in 1964, he attended the University of Wisconsin Superior where he received his degree in Political Science and History. Bruce was the former Mayor of Superior and was the longest serving Mayor in Superior's history with a service of 18 years. Bruce's love of Superior and public service began with his father who also served as Mayor of Superior. His father's example set in motion, a lifelong love of public service for Bruce and the career choices that he made throughout his life. Bruce had many careers, first as a History teacher, and then an Assistant Principal in the Superior School District and then after serving his first tenure as Mayor, he was appointed Chief of Staff for the then Governor of Wisconsin Tommy G. Thompson in 1987. He then finished his career as the administrator of the Wisconsin Division of Unemployment Compensation until his retirement. He then returned to Superior in 2011 where his retirement was cut short and he was again elected Mayor of Superior until he resigned because of health reasons in April of 2017.
Bruce is proceeded in death by his parents Lawrence and Inez Hagen, his sister Lois Smith, brother Lawrence "Buzzy" Hagen and sisters Nancy Baker, Marlene Peterson and Marcia Bliss.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife Lois (Jardine) Hagen, daughters Kari (Ryan) Charles of Aurora, IL, Courtney (Chris) Arnold of Houston, TX and Krista Hagen of Arlington, TX. Granddaughters Taylor and Teagan Charles, Jayce Garcia, and a soon to be granddaughter due in December. He also is survived by his siblings Lillis (Lloyd) Murray of Salt Lake City, UT, Joan (Charles) Everson of Superior, WI and Gene (Barb) Hagen of Menomonie, WI, a sister-in-law Lois Hagen, brother-in-law Bob Bliss, cousin Terry Buxton, step-sons Jerry (Valorie) Aunet, John (Vickie) Aunet, and Step-Daughters Robyn (Mike) Hurd, Lisa (Wally) Slagle and numerous nieces and nephews. Bruce's smile, kindness and upbeat spirit will be sadly missed his family and many friends.
A Celebration of Bruce's life will be held on Sunday August 11th, 2019 at the United Presbyterian Church at 229 North 28th St. in Superior with Gary Banker officiating. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 4 pm with the celebration of life immediately following.
Memorial donations may be made to Superior Senior High School scholarship fund or to the Superior Elks Club.
