Bruce John Herstad, 72, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, in his hometown of Superior, WI.

Born September 13, 1951, in Superior and raised in Solon Springs by his mother Ruth and stepfather Ray Orner, Bruce graduated high school and moved to Superior where he met his beloved wife Mary Lynn Becher.

Bruce and Mary were wed July 10, 1976, and they built a life together in Superior. He was a dedicated, loving husband and father raising a family of 4 children, serving his community with career, involvement with his church, and honoring God with a life devoted to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Bruce's life of service touched many around him, as he and Mary were very involved with Maranatha Academy, where Bruce served as a board member for many years. He also occasionally served as a Sunday school teacher at church, a Boy Scout leader on camping trips, a basketball coach to his boys, and always a loving father to his children.  He enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, games, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bruce was a skilled woodworker for over 35 years, filling many homes in his community and region with fine cabinetry, his friendly smile, and his warm personality.  Many customers became friends, and Bruce loved to serve and please everyone he worked for with all he did.

His memory will be cherished forever in the hearts of his family: his loving wife Mary; his children, Seth (Holly) Herstad, Ben (Becky) Herstad, Leah (Luke) Schmitz, and Hannah (Pete) Johnson; his grandchildren, Grace, Meg, Anna, Betsy, Jake, Josh, Caleb, Naomi, Abigail, Ruth, and Evelyn; his brothers, Les and Eric and their families; and his brother Doug's surviving family.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Douglas.

A visitation will be Sunday, June 2nd from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, WI 54880.

The visitation will continue Monday, June 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Darrow Road Church, 4020 S. Darrow Road, Superior, WI 54880, with a service to celebrate Bruce's life at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
