Carl David Bergstrom, 90, of Superior. went to his eternal home on Saturday, May 26, 2018. He was born on December 22, 1927 to Martin and Maria (Johansson) Bergstrom in Haparanda, Sweden. After his schooling, he joined Sweden's Army and served as a fire fighter. He worked in a bakery, learning the trade. In 1950, as a young man, he left Sweden and immigrated to America to live with his uncle and aunt in Superior, WI. His cousin employed him at The Danish Bakery in downtown Superior WI. He excelled in making pastries and decorating cakes. He continued baking at Piggly Wiggly and Co-op. He became a member of Ogden Ave. Baptist Church in Superior where his uncle, Rev. Carl Bergstrom, was the minister. His faith in God was always very evident and he was used by God in numerous ways to proclaim the good news of the gospel by working with the children's ministry, helping with projects, and using his artistic skills.
It was at church that he met Lucille Barnes. They married on June 19, 1954 and celebrated 63 years together. They had four daughters and he was an active, loving, and caring husband and father. In 1960 he became a U.S. citizen. He began working for Douglas County as a maintenance worker at the Wayside Rest Area on US Hwy. 2 until his retirement. He loved photography, fixing things, traveling, camping, helping his children with their home projects, and helping with projects at his new church, Bayside Baptist.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucy, of Superior; his children: Jeanne (Ken) Richart of St. Cloud, MN; Joanne (Kenn) Larsen of Richfield, MN; Sharon (Douglas) Nelson of Poplar, WI; his grandchildren: Andrew, Jennifer, Michelle, Kristina, Mariah, and Emily. There are several nieces and nephews living in Sweden.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Rut Sundberg, Marta Randow, Margareta Widlund and infant daughter, Karen.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 11:00 am. at Bayside Baptist Church, 3915 N 16
th
Street, Superior, WI, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Reverend Tom Bush will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
