Catherine “Cathy” L. Joiner, 74, of Superior, WI, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, MN.

Cathy was born on February 10, 1952, in Superior, WI, to Katherine (McGinnis) and Carl Petersen. She married David Joiner on August 1, 1980, in Duluth, MN.

Cathy was employed for over 45 years at Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital in Superior, where she worked as a Sterilization Technician. She had a big heart that never stopped giving. Cathy will be remembered for her fierce love of her family and her willingness to do anything for them, especially her grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her sister, Carol Johnson; her brother, Myron Petersen; her aunt, Lucille McDonald; and her special dog, Marley.

Cathy is survived by her daughter, Melissa (Pete Johnson) Joiner; her grandsons, Cadin and Zachary Olson; her brother, Richard Petersen, and his family; her special friends, Gene and Debbie Beetcher; her nephews, Tom Krob and his children, Bill (Misty) Tollefson, and Bob (Stephanie Swanson) Krob; and her sister-in-law, Sue Podgett.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, November 16, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N. 34th St., Superior, WI. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
