Charles "Charlie" Jon Klein, age 74, of Superior, died on Friday, February 25, 2022, of complications with pneumonia and small cell carcinoma.  He passed in the hospital with his daughter and granddaughter by his side.

He was born in Virginia, MN on June 10, 1947, to Noel and Doris (Erickson) Klein.  Some of his fondest childhood memories included spending time with his brother, Donald Klein, and sister, Bette Kunselman, at the family lake home.  He also enjoyed riding horses and causing trouble at the family-owned bar, the Checkerboard in South Range.

After graduating from Superior Senior High School, he was drafted into the Army where he spent two years in Germany in the chemical unit.  Once he was out of the Army, he married Robin (Mattison) Klein.  In 1972, he became a father to his only daughter Angela (Klein) Couture.  During this time, he was a laborer at the Taconite Steel Plant on the Range.

In 2002, he moved back to Superior where he reconnected with Diane Myers.  They spent several of their golden years building a life together.  He loved camping, going on motorcycle rides, gardening, woodworking, and spending time with family.  After several years, he proudly retired from Barker's Island Inn where he worked in maintenance.

Charlie is survived by nephews, nieces, and cousins.  He is also survived by his daughter Angela (Skip) Couture, granddaughter Paige Klein, and the love of his life, Diane Myers.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, from 5-7 p.m. in Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, WI.

Angela and Paige would like to give a special thank you to second floor staff of Superior Rehabilitation Center that took such wonderful care of him in his last year of life.  They would also like to thank Essentia Health Oncology, Radiology, and the Infusion Center staff as they treated him and his family with such grace and kindness this past year.
