Charles "Charlie" E. Wessberg, 86, of Superior, died peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2015, in his home at Edgewood Vista in Hermantown, MN. He was born December 1, 1928, in Fergus Falls, MN, son of Allen and Francis Wessberg.

On December 31, 1952, he married Helen L. Thurnau and they celebrated 62 years together.

Charlie's work history included a Commissary Warehouse Foreman at the Duluth, MN Air Force base, and Apartment Manager with Thies & Talle, Mgmt. He also served his country in the Korean War, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also a past Commander of American Legion Post No. 418.

He was a member of Peace Church in Duluth, MN. In the early years of his son's lives, he served as Little League coach, president of the Skyline Babe Ruth League, and Scout Master of Duluth Boy Scout Troop No. 29.

Charlie greatly enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing and hunting. His greatest love was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Friends and family will always remember Charlie's sense of humor and his many stories of past adventures.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers George Wessberg and Harold Stein, and sister Mildred Horn. Survivors include his wife, Helen, sons Chuck (Barb) Wessberg, Superior, and Rick (Karin) Wessberg, Shoreview, MN, grandchildren-Breanna (Joshua) Schueller, Garrett, Luke, Philip, Graham, and Laura Wessberg.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11am service Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Peace United Church of Christ, 1111 N. 11th Avenue East, Duluth, with the Reverend Kathy Nelson officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave., is assisting the family with arrangements.
