Obituary

Chedo Filipovich (Čedomir Filipović) was born in Knez Selo, Niš, Srbija on January 12, 1934. He was raised and educated in Beograd. In 1954, Chedo illegally left Yugoslavia and went to Austria. In Enns, Austria, he lived in a refugee camp and worked in Steyr while awaiting sponsorship in the United States. After a two year wait, he emigrated to Racine, Wisconsin. It was in Racine that he found himself in a community of other hard-working immigrants and he made a life for himself. He met his wife Rosalie (Vokovich) in 1963 and they married in May of 1964. Chedo worked at Tree Machine Tool Company, where he was a valued machinist for 30 years. He trained many newcomers in machine work while at Tree. When his long-time employer closed, he went to work at American Motors in Kenosha. He was there through the change to Chrysler and the closing of the plant. He finished his career at Twin Disc in Racine and retired in 1999. In retirement, Chedo went on cross country road trips with Rosalie and traveled to Europe many times. They moved to Superior, Wisc. after building their dream home there in 2013. Chedo enjoyed gardening and keeping track of the deer and other wildlife that come through the yard.

Chedo is survived by his wife, Rosalie; daughter, Nada (Michael Steiner); and 3 grandchildren.

We are grateful to family and St Luke's Hospice for all their loving support.
