Chester Harris Beetcher, 95, of Superior Wis., went home with the Lord on November 16, 2013.
He was born on August 17, 1918 to Charles and Ruth Beetcher in Superior. Chet graduated from East High School in 1936. Following a brief career with the Great Northern Railroad, he married Maude Smith in 1943 and soon after got drafted into the Army. He was an Army construction foreman overseas until 1945. While in the Army he received an American Theatre, European African, Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with three battle stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a WWII Victory Medal.
Chet worked for the City of Superior as a machine operator from 1952 until retiring in 1981.
Chet was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working at the annual pasty bake and every year one of his jobs was peeling onions with his brother, Ken. He also enjoyed working in his garden. He grew so much he had to give it away.
He was an avid softball player and Packer fan. He enjoyed a wide variety of sports until age 70.
Among his many hobbies, he liked to camp, swim and fish with his family.
At one time he rebuilt his mobile home and enjoyed repairing things for his neighbors. He had a big heart and was loved by everyone.
Chet was preceded in death by his wife, Maude; a daughter, Barbara; brothers, Kenneth and Donald; sisters, Ida Barnard and Ella Peterson; and his special friend, Gem Peltzer.
He is survived by his daughter, Delores "Dede" (George) Dale of Superior; grandchildren, Brian Arneson, Barbara Dale, and Crystal Dale Office and her husband, Benny Office and their children, Kyle and Malakia; and many nieces and nephews, including Jim Barnard, his closest nephew.
His funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Lutheran Church with Rev David Schoessow officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Nemadji Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Nicky Brand, Benny Office, Brian Arneson, Dale Barnard, Shan Martineau and Tom Anderson.
Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Richard I. Bong Post No. 435.
