Clarence "Mac"
Malcolm Scott, Jr.
February 26, 1937 – October 30, 2023
Dr. Clarence Malcom "Mac" Scott, Jr., 86 of Superior, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023, at New Perspectives Assisted Living in Superior, WI.
Mac was born February 26, 1937, in Kirksville, MO to Clarence M. and Grace M. (Williamson) Scott, Sr. He and his three brothers were raised in Wisconsin.
Mac married Eloise (Johnson) Scott August 17th, in Belmond, Iowa. They met at St. Olaf College, began their lives together in Madison, Wisconsin and settled in Superior. Mac and Eloise celebrated 47 years of marriage.
Mac graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1955, attended St. Olaf College and the University of Wisconsin, and graduated from University of Wisconsin's Medical School in 1962. Mac completed his Medical Internship in Family Practice at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth. He and his partners established the East End Clinic. He worked for both Superior and Duluth area hospitals, until his retirement from Saint Mary's Duluth Clinic (Essentia Health.) Mac was a Medic with the local Wisconsin National Guard for six years with the rank of Major. He was a panelist on Doctors on Call several times throughout his medical career. He will be remembered for the skilled, compassionate, and ethical care of his patients.
Mac had numerous hobbies and interests including a love for the outdoors (boating, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycling), reading, music, sports, traveling, and many more. He was a gifted musician who played multiple instruments, including the trombone, where he played in ensembles at various venues including Supper/Dance clubs, the St. Olaf Band, and the Proctor Community band. Mac was a dynamic man with an inquisitive nature who continued learning throughout his life: taking online college courses into his eighties. He had a quick wit and was known for being a 'human encyclopedia': sharing in-depth knowledge about a variety of subjects. A few of his most meaningful quotes include "Well planned. Well executed."
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eloise, his son, Dr. Mark Peter Scott and his brother, Lance Scott.
Survivors include his daughter, Kristin (John) McMurtry; his grandchildren, Kelsey McMurtry, Ryan (Anna) McMurtry, Jessica Scott and Tamara Scott; his brothers, Richard (Roseann) Scott and Ronald (Julie) Scott; stepbrother, Jim Call, his daughter in-law, Sonia Valdivia; his longtime friend, Jan Biga, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
