Clarice Signe Erkkila, 87, of Superior, died Friday, January 1, 2010 at Golden Living Center, Superior.

She was born January 19, 1922 in Superior, daughter of Gilbert and Clara (Heiberg) Fossum.

Clarice graduated from Superior Central High School in 1939 and then studied in the Commercial Department at the Superior Vocational School. She was employed in a real estate office prior to her marriage.

Clarice was united in marriage to Rudolph Erkkila on January 23, 1943 at Kansas City, Missouri, where Rudy was stationed in the Army Engineer Corps at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They celebrated their 66th anniversary in 2009.

She was formerly employed by Central Accounting Service and Duluth-Superior Transit Company. Clarice later went to work for the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where she helped UWS students in the Financial Aid Office for 14 years. She continued working for faculty offices until her retirement in 1982.

Clarice and Rudy enjoyed traveling and spending several winters in Texas.

Her memberships included Zoar Lutheran Church, attended Bayside Baptist Church, Women's Club of Superior, Fairlawn Auxiliary and life member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary. She also served on her high school reunion committees.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Rudolph in 2009; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her brother, Ken Fossum, Superior; and her extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Bayside Baptist Church, 3915 N. 16th Street, Superior. Reverend Phil Terrill will officiate.

The family invites everyone to a luncheon that will be served at the church following the funeral service.

Following the luncheon, a private committal service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Loken, Donald Loken, Maynard Fossum, Ray Paulsen, Roland Paulsen and John Johnson.

If desired, memorials may be made in Clarice's name to Bayside Baptist Church, SMDC Foundation or the Salvation Army.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Golden Living Center, for their compassionate care.
