Clayton "Butch" C. Venne, 81, of Superior, died peacefully on Friday, September 27, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

He was born July 1, 1943, in Superior to Clayton and Caroline (Zoretich) Venne.

Butch graduated in 1962 from Central High School.  He married Nancy Ann (McFarlane) on November 27, 1972, in Superior and celebrated more than 51 years of marriage.

Butch worked for North American Aviation in California. After returning to Superior, he worked for the City of Superior and in the insurance business.  Butch was a bartender at various establishments over the years, most recently at Jack's Place.  He worked at Nemadji Golf Course as a course ranger.  Butch was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Other memberships include Moose Lodge 606 and US Golf Association.

Butch loved his sports playing football, basketball, and baseball as a youth.  He coached Pony League football and Little League baseball.  He enjoyed golfing and bowling in numerous leagues in addition to curling years ago.  Butch would normally be found on the golf course on any given day, rain or shine.  He was an avid fan of the Packers, Brewers, and Badgers along with attending the many sporting events of his grandchildren.  He treasured the many fun times spent with friends and family watching a game over a beverage.

Butch is survived by his wife Nancy, their children Greg (Erin), and Bob (Pam), former wife Nancy, their children Doug (Nancy), Dede (Gary Lillo), and Brian, daughter-in-law Mary, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, brother Bill (Lori), special cousin Carol (Greg) Forward, nephew Bill (Melanie), sisters-in-law Anita McFarlane and Mary (Jim) Hartwig, along with an uncle, aunts, and many cousins;.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Chuck, grandson Gary Jr. "Butchie".

The visitation will be October 11, 2024, at 11am to 1pm with the memorial service at 1pm at the Downs Life Celebration Center with Father Andrew Ricci as officiant.

The burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Superior, with a reception at Downs Life Celebration Center.

In lieu of flowers and cards, donations can be made to the Nemadji Junior Golf Program and St. Anthony Catholic Church, Superior.

The Venne family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to the St. Luke's medical staff especially the hospice nurses for all their compassionate care and support of Butch in his time of need.
