Obituary

Clifford A. (Cliff) Lindberg passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, after a short but valiant battle with cancer.

Cliff was born in Superior on August 29, 1936, to Arthur and Mary (Simpson) Lindberg.

Cliff grew up in Superior, WI and lived there most of life except for about 15 years in Las Cruces, NM. He attended the Dewey "One Room" Schoolhouse, Billings School and Central High School.

Cliff started his career on the railroad. After a short time, he realized that the railroad wasn't for him. He then started driving truck and this would end up being his primary job for the rest of his career, driving until he was 80 years old.  Long haul, heavy, oversized loads were his specialty. Cliff had some great stories to tell over the years of things he had seen, things he had done (some legal, some not) and places he had been while covering millions of miles of highways and back roads in every state, excluding Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico.

He was always trying to avoid the scales in case he was overloaded. He would often drive late into the night or all night to get the load to the delivery site earlier. He would tarp his oversized loads with black tarps to avoid being seen in the nighttime hours when it was illegal to drive. While living in Las Cruces he hauled over-sized, specialty loads including jet engines and topsecret military equipment. Sometimes he didn't even know what the contents of load was.

Cliff was also a heavy equipment operator and could operate all types of machinery. He owned Lindberg Sand & Gravel outside of Superior for many years.

In the early 70's, Cliff purchased George's Tavern in Billings Park and renamed it Charlie Brown's Bar. Then in the late 70's he owned a small car dealership, North Country Sales and Service.

Always being adventurous, in the mid-70's, he received his small aircraft pilots license. He loved to fly and enjoyed flying for many years. His final venture was opening up A Dozen Excuses Donut Shop. Cliff would deliver donuts and buns to various businesses all around the Superior and Duluth area. He never wanted to retire therefore he worked up until the last few weeks of his life.

Cliff was a member of the Superior Elks #403, the Duluth Owl's Club, All American Club of Duluth, and a member of the Lake Superior Squadron (volunteers dedicated to keeping WWII aircraft flying and honoring the people flew them). His hobbies and interests included flying, airplanes of all types, watching or attending racing, riding motorcycles, working on old cars, and attending car shows. One of his favorite enjoyments was visiting with friends over coffee at local restaurants.

Cliff is proceeded in death by his parents and second wife, Diana Lindberg, (Mother of Dana).

Cliff is survived by his children, Randy (Paula) Lindberg, Brenda (Art) Woodman, Dede (Kim) Chart and Dana (Steve Caldwell) Lindberg; grandchildren, Brandon Larson, Brent Larson, Brianna Larson, and Lisa (Nate) Jacobsen, Ryan (Jennifer Androsky) Lindberg, Laura Lindberg, Steven (Morgan LeNeau) Stupak, Nathan Ortega, Hilary (Rasika Jayasekera) Chart and Anders (Puthida) Chart and 14 Great-Grandchildren; siblings, Elizabeth (Paul) Strand, Perry (Lonnie Moss) Lindberg and Judy (Dave) Thompson; Carrie Lindberg (Mother of Randy, Brenda, and Dede), long time business partner, Melissa Kindgren, close friend and business partner, Reggie and fur baby, Abbey.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Brandon Larson, Brent Larson, Ryan Lindberg, Brianna Larson, Laura Lindberg, Steven Stupak and Nathan Ortega.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the Holyoke Cemetery, Holyoke, MN. Following the cemetery service there will be a celebration of Cliff's life at Shamrock Pizza from 2 until 4 p.m.
