Curtis G. Christianson, 92, of Superior, died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at St. Luke' Hospice in Duluth.
Curtis was born in Superior on Nov. 27, 1926 the son of Clarence and Esther Christianson.
He served his country during WWII enlisting in the Navy. He was a merchant marine, sailing the Great Lakes for 27 years as a cook.
Curtis was an active member of First Evangelical Covenant Church. He was a member of the Gideons and loved going to the YMCA. He was a kind, generous, Christian man, who lived his faith through his daily actions and his passion in life was giving to others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and James; sister, Joyce; brother-in-law, Harry McKenzie; and great-niece, Robby Joy Schmitz.
Curtis is survived by his sister, Marge Smith; nieces and nephews, Joel James (Sandy) Smith, Carolyn (Greg) Miller, Lynda (Willie) Chapoton, Steve McKenzie, Dave (Karla) McKenzie, Kathy (Doug) Schmitz, Maureen McKenzie, Nancy (Herb) Berzelius, Tom (Lori) McKenzie, Joe (Nancy) McKenzie, and Pat (Kris) McKenzie; 27 great nieces and nephews, 11 great-great nieces and nephews; Uncle Curt's family at the Y and his church family.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 8, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th Street. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, January 9, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at First Evangelical Covenant Church. Rev. Luke Oliver will officiate.
Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Spooner with military honors.
If desired, memorials in Curtis' name may be made to First Evangelical Covenant Church, 3311 Hammond Avenue or the Superior YMCA, 9 N 21 st Street.
