Cygna
Freeman
May 10, 1937 – May 20, 2025
Cygna "Sig" D.A. Freeman, 88, longtime Superior resident, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025 in Essentia Duluth.
Sig was born May 10, 1937 in Smithtown, NY to Herman and Ethel (Dissenger) Enterline. She graduated from University High School in Bloomington, IN in 1955. She married the love of her life, John Freeman, on Sept. 6, 1958, and celebrated 61 years of marriage before his passing in 2019. Together, they raised three sons, Jon, Randy, and Lee.
She earned her bachelor's degree in fine arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and her master's degree in counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She retired from the Recovery Center after 15 years of service.
Sig volunteered in the foster grandparent program at Cooper Elementary School, and for the past four, she volunteered at the Richard I. Bong Veterans Center. She loved knitting and crocheting, painting, reading, and going to rummage sales. John and Sig used to go on road trips looking for fun antiques for their collection. Sig also loved gardening; she was a natural, as it seemed like anything she threw out in the cement garden would grow and bloom.
Sig was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; brother and sister-in-law J. Herman and Dorothy Enterline; and brother-in-law Luis Fajardo.
She is survived by her sons, Jon, Randell "Randy" (Ellen), and Lee (Heidi) Freeman; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sister Lorela Fajardo; her kitty; and many relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life: Saturday, June 21, 2025, 12-3 p.m., in the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center, 305 Harbor View Parkway, Superior, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Sig's name to the Richard I. Bong Veterans Center.
