Dale W. Waters, 75, of Superior, died Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at his residence.

Dale was born in Duluth, Minn. on June 14, 1936 the son of William and Helga Waters.

He married the former Barbara Ann Miller on March 30, 1957 and they celebrated over 53 years of marriage until her passing on Dec. 3, 2010.

Dale had worked many jobs in his life, including U.S. Steel, Kelly's Service Station on Cody St., and then began his career on the railroad working for the Duluth Winnipeg and Pacific Railroad for over 47 years retiring as a conductor at the age of 62. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #80.

Dale and Barbara had a wonderful life together. They enjoyed many things, including snowmobiling and camping at Totogatic Park in Washburn County. They made numerous trips to Las Vegas, where they had a lot of good times. They also were able to travel to Hawaii twice.

He enjoyed playing pool and was a very good player. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to deer hunt on his son Jeff's 80 acres. His grandchildren would look forward to the hunting trips because Dale would always bring the big thermos of hot chocolate, cupcakes and twinkies. He also enjoyed the venison chili feed Julie would make each hunting season.

Dale loved to plant flowers and to arrange them. He always had flowers in the yard and every year would fill the cemetery baskets with flowers. He would also bring flowers to the gravesites of our loved ones on Memorial Day.

Dale was a great father and had a lot of patience. He had a huge heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was always there to help his children with their projects from fixing cars to plumbing. He loved to tinker with things and fix things others wouldn't fix. He enjoyed working on cars and there wasn't much on a car he couldn't fix. He believed in comfort and for that reason he owned Cadillacs for over 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara and a brother Glenn.

Dale is survived by his three sons, Jeff (Julie) Waters of Maple, Wis., Ken Waters of Superior, and Mark (Shanna) Waters of Superior; and his grandchildren, Cody, Kira, Kyler, James, Krista, Brandon.

Visitation will be held on Mon. Mar. 5, 2012 from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci, Rector of Cathedral of Christ the King, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be, Jeff, Ken and Mark Waters, Roger Heinen, Ron Shelerud and George Lee.
