October 5, 1945 – July 14, 2021
Dale N. Wickstrom, 75 of Saginaw, died Wednesday, July 14, 2021, after complications from heart surgery at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
Dale was born in Cloquet, MN on Oct. 5, 1945, the son of Elmer Wickstrom and Grace (Ward) Bergeron. He married Diane Miller on May 1, 1982.
He opened his first business as Dale's Service Center. He was later co-owner at Cloquet Service Center until retirement.
He served his country in the US Army and then the Army Reserves retiring in 2005. He was a cook in the 477 Medical company and part of the marksmanship training program. He participated in high power rifle shooting for the Army Reserve and as a civilian. He competed in national competitions at Camp Perry on the All Army Rifle team as a member of the President's Hundred. He was awarded the Distinguished Rifleman in Excellence and Competition medal.
Dale was a member of the Northwest Gun Club for over 40 years and volunteered many hours on the high power rifle range and other projects for the club. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and MN Deer Hunters Association. Dale was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid Vikings and Twins fan.
Dale had a special relationship with his nieces, Candy and Kalli and enjoyed teaching them about the outdoors. He adored spending time with his great-nieces Aili, Madeline, and Gabriella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Joan, Jean, and Jane; and niece's husband, Steve Arnovich.
Dale is survived by his wife, Diane; brother Darrel (Virginia) Wickstrom of Barnum, MN; sister, Beverly Niesen of Aitkin, MN; mother-in-law, Lorraine Miller of Duluth; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat and Conrad Erickson of Superior; nieces, Candace (Jeff) Cushman and Kalli (Jeff) Manion both of Superior; great-nieces, Aili Arnovich and Madeline and Gabriella Manion; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and his beloved dog, Luna.
Visitation will be held on Thursday July 22, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14 th St, Cloquet, MN. Burial will be in Oneota Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Duluth Combined Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Steve Arnovich 14 Foundation, C/O Jeff Manion, 711 Hammond Ave., Superior, WI 54880.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Mary Boylan and the staff and nurses of St. Luke's Cardiac and Rehab unit.
