Daniel D. Jensen, age 88, Superior resident, passed away on August 23, 2018.  He was born on April 30, 1930 to Sylvester and Esther Jensen.  He was raised and attended school in Dorchester, WI.  Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War.  After his military service, he moved to the Superior area and worked as a crash and rescue firefighter at the Duluth Air Base.  He was hired on the Superior Police department in 1959 and served the Superior community as a patrolman until retiring in 1991.  He was then hired on the Douglas County Sheriff's Department and served the Douglas County community as undersheriff for four more years.

Dan enjoyed the outdoors, especially all types of hunting.  He also enjoyed fishing, camping, and gardening.  He was a founding member of the Ambridge Gun Club, and he shot competitively on the Superior Police Department's pistol team.  He won many state pistol competitions.  Much of his free time was spent with his family at his hunting cabin and property.  Dan was a member of the Superior Evening Lions Club.  He thoroughly enjoyed conversation, and sharing some of his amazing life stories with his family.

Throughout his life, he helped countless people and lived a life of serving others.  His kindness, generosity, and compassion toward others will be missed.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Nieve; and brother, Lowell Jensen.

He is survived by his sons, Eric Jensen and David Jensen (Nicole), daughter, Danielle Sislo (Tony);  grandchildren Nicholas Jensen (Ashley), Brianna Lorenz (Colton), Jade Jensen, Desiree Jensen, Draden Jensen, Madison Sislo, and Emma Sislo; great-grandchildren Carter Jensen and Axton Jensen; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Mary Jensen, who continued to love, care, and support him in his later years.  Special thanks also to all his personal care assistants and others who supported him.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM, on Thursday, August 30, 2018 and will continue until an 11:30 memorial service at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci officiating.

Burial with military honors will be accorded at Greenwood Cemetery following the service.
