Daniel W.
Mckenzie
August 25, 1935 – March 25, 2024
Daniel W. McKenzie, 88, of Superior, died Monday, March 25, 2024, at Solvay Hospice House, Duluth.
He was born August 25, 1935, in Superior, son of Cyril and Catherine (DeForge) McKenzie.
Dan was a marine engineer retired from Great Lakes Towing and North American Towing. He sailed both saltwater and freshwater as a member of the MEBA.
On August 10, 1974, Daniel William McKenzie and Kathryn Ann Kongevick were united in marriage.
Dan loved his grandgirls with all of his heart. He loved kids and teaching them to swim and fish. Some of his other interests included computers, fishing, watching eagles, waiting for hawks to tell him when the fish were biting and music, especially bluegrass. Dan taught himself to play the guitar, mandolin, and electric bass at the age of 60. He could fix anything almost and built a garden shed and a 'shack' at the lake.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother Thomas McKenzie.
Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Kathryn; son, Charles William McKenzie (wife, Leslie Seltzer); granddaughters, Imogen and Morgan of Verona, WI; sister, Mary (husband, Douglas Steuber, deceased) McKenzie, Naples, Florida; brothers, John (wife, Faye) and Joe (wife, Monina, deceased); and sister Jean Watenphul (husband, Steve), Osseo, WI and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His special friend Ron Rico, the truest of friends will fish without him.
A celebration of Dan's life will be held this summer at Billings Park and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Superior.
