Obituary

Darcy Jean (Freer) Osterlund, 80, passed away Sunday, May 7 2017 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Beloved wife of Dr. David Conrad Osterlund, mother of four, and grandmother of five. Darcy was born in Superior, WI, daughter of the late Lloyd Watson Freer and Lois Darcy (Welch) Freer.

Darcy and David married in LaCrosse, WI, on August 9, 1958, and lived in Fridley, MN, before moving to Columbia, SC in 1989.

Their greatest adventure was between 1969 and 1973 when they taught, served, and raised their family in Ethiopia at the American Community and Good Shephard Schools in Addis Ababa.

Darcy was a homemaker, teacher, scholar, and writer. She was an active member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, a committed choir member, and part of Wednesday morning prayer meetings. For many years, Darcy played her violin for the elderly in local nursing homes.
Darcy had an adventurous spirit, unwavering character, a delightful empathy of others, a deep love of her Savior and of Scripture, and she cared always for her family.

Darcy is survived by her husband David, children Elizabeth Liljeblad of Duluth, Robert (Mary) Osterlund of White Bear Lake, MN, Philip (Helen) Osterlund of Eagan, MN, Andrew (Kristen) Osterlund of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren John, Jonathan, Laura, Anna, and August, siblings Kay (Lloyd) Nelson of Phoenix, Paul (Kay) Freer of Superior, and Tamah DeFrere of Eagan.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Bayside Baptist Church in Superior. Visitation will begin hour prior. Rev. Mark Pavola will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
