Obituary

David Allen Johnson, 58, of Superior, died Sunday, August 10, 2014, at Villa-Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center, Superior.

He was born December 27, 1955, in Superior.

Dave graduated from the College of St. Scholastica with a degree in social work. He was most recently employed at Woodland Hills, and had a passion for his job there. He was truly an advocate for youth in the Duluth/Superior area.

Dave had a zest for life, and tried a little of everything. He enjoyed the outdoors. Some of his hobbies included rock climbing, marathon running, biking, fishing, hunting, hiking and traveling when he could. He also enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR, and recently took up painting. He was a featherweight boxer, trained in karate, had taken flight lessons and at one time race car driving was his passion in Superior and the surrounding race tracks.

He loved people, all people. He was an active volunteer for many events in the area. Though he will be missed by friends and family, his spirit will remain strong in those who knew him.

Preceding him in death were his father, Marvin (Marv) Johnson in 2009 and step-mother, Conchuita (Connie) Johnson in 1996.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Kathy and Chuck Salo, Superior; brothers and sisters, Rodney Johnson, Jefferson City, Tenn.; Sue Wedan, Lake Nebagamon, Wis.; Donna Soyring, New Richmond, Wis.; Phillip Rasmussen, South St. Paul, Minn.; Sheila Rasmussen, Amnicon Lake, Wis.; Julie Rasmussen, Kingman, Arizona; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a very special friend, Sherry.

A celebration of Dave's life will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior.
