Delia LaVerne Swenson, 90, of Superior, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth.
Delia was born in Northfield, Wis., on Jan. 3, 1921. She was the last surviving of eight children born to Clara (Hanson) and Morris Hagen.
She was a 1943 graduate of St. Luke's School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse and had worked at St. Luke's Hospital, Superior Memorial Hospital and retired from Middle River Health and Rehab Center.
Delia was a longtime member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church where she was as an active member of the church circle and she enjoyed volunteering for the church. She was also a member of the St. Luke's Nursing School Alumni.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, William Swenson.
Delia is survived by her daughter, Mary Swenson of St. Paul, Minn., her son, David Swenson of Minneapolis and her nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be held on Wed. Aug. 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Rev. Will Mowchan will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Inurnment will be at a later date in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors and nurses of St. Luke's Hospice for their care and compassion and to the staff at Harmony House. Delia grew to feel the staff that cared for her were part of her family and that Harmony House was her home. She will miss all of you and sends her love.
