Dennis "The Menace" Lee VanAlstine, 75, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Essentia-St.Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
He was born in Swea City, Iowa on October 20, 1940, the son of Andrew and Leola VanAlstine.
Dennis was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and the former Ogden Avenue Baptist Church. He was an avid car fan and was well known amongst the local drag racing community even co-founding the Twin Ports Hot Rod Association. Dennis also organized the annual Superior 4th of July car show which he was tremendously proud of.
Dennis also enjoyed bowling in his earlier years. He was a member of many bowling leagues around Superior. He rolled the City of Superior's 16th ever perfect bowling game (300) and was a recurring member of the City All Star team.
He is preceded by his parents; brother, John VanAlstine; sister-in-law, Linda VanAlstine; niece, Angie Halverson and nephews, Gary, Jeffrey, Joey and Adam VanAlstine.
Dennis is survived by daughters, Brenda (Aaron) Ashley of Burnsville, and Tammy (Jason) Davis of Superior; grandchildren, Benjamin Ashley, and Rylan, Liam and Hillary Davis; siblings, Andrew 'Bruce' (Pat) VanAlstine of Superior, Edith (Dave) Halverson of Racine, Tom VanAlstine of Superior, and Viola (Bob) LaBounty of Solon Springs; mother of his children, Adele 'Rosie' VanAlstine; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 2, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bayside Baptist Church and will resume Monday, October 3, 2016 at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. Rev. Tom Bush will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
