Dolores M. Mertes, 85 of Superior, died Friday August 11, 2017 at Superior Rehab and Nursing Center.

Dolores was born on Nov. 6, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Leominster, MA, the daughter of Anna and Rocco Sacramone.

She married her husband James on April 16, 1955 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage.

She had worked for Foster Grant Co. assembling sunglasses and then for the Superior School District as Head Cook for 21 years.

Dolores enjoyed going to the cabin and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed the many trips she took with her husband, James.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Frank, Robert and Theresa; nephew, Joey; and her mother and father in-law, Olive and Earl Mertes.

Dolores is survived by her husband, James; daughters, Diana (Bob) Phetteplace of Pine City, MN, JoAnne (Mark) Van Poucke of Superior, and Mary (Kerry) Sorensen of Barnes; grandchildren, Justin, Benjamin, Gina, Anna, Laina, Brian and Kelly; great-grandchildren, Parker, Maddie, Olive, Iris, Eilee, Nixen, Emma, Lucas, and Breanna; brothers and sisters, Anita, Rocco, Philip, Mary, Anna, Ralph, Rita, Thomas, and Christina; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, Aug. 14 from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral of Christ the King Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant. Burial will be in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
