Donald R. Albright, 93, a lifelong Superior area resident, died, Monday, March 2, 2015 at Essentia St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth.
He was born to Nellie (Todd) and Clyde Albright in Superior on June 20, 1921. He was a 1939 graduate of Superior Central High School. He worked with his parents in Albright's Nursery, a family business started by his Grandfather in 1892. After the death of his Father he was employed by the Wisconsin Dept. of Transportation until his retirement in 1986.
He served his country during WW II in the Army's 17th Field Artillery. From 1942 until 1945 he served in North Africa, Sicily, Italy and at the Battle Of The Bulge in France.
He was a life member of the V. F. W. Post No. 1091, and had served on the Board of Directors of Greenwood Cemetery from 1958 until the present and was very proud of his part in helping the cemetery to become such a beautiful final resting place. Don was a longtime member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of over 61 years, the former Ruth Bailey on Mar. 26, 2011; a son, Clyde on Oct. 13, 1970; a sister, Gene (Robert) Nelson on Nov. 27, 1985; and a daughter-in-law, Sherry L. Albright on Dec. 28, 2004.
Donald was loved and will be missed by his three children and their families, Dawn (Charles) Anderson, John (Julie) Albright and Robert Albright, Sr.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; our extended family, John, Roze, Colton and Kali Krivenchuk; and many dear friends.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. memorial service in the Downs Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, March 6, 2015 with Rev. Gary Garnatz, Pastor of Bethel Lutheran Church officiating. Committal prayers will take place at Greenwood Cemetery followed by Military Rites accorded by the Richard I. Bong American Legion Post No. 435 Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers Bruce Petersen, Bart Frandsen, Donald Bergman, John and Colton Krivenchuk, Peter Hoefling, Steve Leino, Wayne Middleton, Ted Nelson and James Corbett.
If desired, memorials in Don's name may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or the Greenwood Cemetery Association.
Don always said, "I am a blessed man, because of my loving family and so many wonderful friends."
