Donald W. Bergman, 81, formerly of Superior and currently living in Hayward WI, died Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Donald was born in St. Paul, MN on June 7, 1934 the son of Veronica 'Fronie' and Lloyd Bergman.

He graduated in 1953 from Frederick High School. He married the former Patricia West on June 25, 1955.

He retired from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation as District Permit Supervisor after 29 years. He and his partner Gene McDonald also ran a hobby sawmill.

Don was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he also sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. He loved the Superior Singers and was a member for many years. He was also a member of the Jaycees and Lions Club and had been a Boy Scout Leader. Don and Pat enjoyed dancing and they facilitated the Lake Nebagamon Dance Club for 2 years with Barb and Bruce Aunen.

He was very involved in sports. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, baseball, softball and football. He had coached several youth sports teams in the area. He was always there to see his grandkids participate in anything.

Nobody was a stranger to Don but family and friends were his main focus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and their spouses; and two brothers and a sister-in-law.

Don is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat; children, Cristen M. (Donald, Jr.) Vollmer of Superior, Carren E. Bergman of Hayward, Daniel W. Bergman of Atlanta and Devin P. (Heather) Bergman of Hayward; grandchildren, Sherawn (Nathan) Stewart of Duluth, Donald Vollmer III of Menomonee, Garrett Vollmer of Minneapolis, Kaden Bergman, Cole Bergman and Aili Bergman; a great-granddaughter, Felicia Stewart; sister, Kathleen (Lyle) Burr; and a large extended family.

His memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 27 at 3:00pm at Faith United Methodist Church in Superior. Rev. Joel Certa-Werner will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Hayward Hospital Staff and the Hayward EMTs.
