Obituary

Donald J. Soderberg, 84, lifelong Twin Ports resident, died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Lighthouse of Superior.

Donald served his country in the Army during the Korean War, and worked as a fireman on the Great Northern Railroad. He was an educator, vice-principal, planner, and principal for the Duluth School District. After 'retirement' he became a planner for the Fond Du Lac Indian Reservation. He was also a Hall of Fame athlete, past president of the Duluth Teachers Union, and a longtime member of AA.

Donald was born in Ashland, Wisconsin on January 4, 1929, the son of Joel and Louise Soderberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Barbara, and his sister Lorayne Skustad.

Donald is survived by his children Margaret Soderberg of Hermantown, Minnesota, John (Georgeann Bianchi) Soderberg of Elk River, Minnesota, and Julie (Ross Gallup) Soderberg of Bloomington, Minnesota. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two nieces, a nephew, and many friends.

Donald was a gracious, loving, compassionate, funny, and kind man. He will be dearly missed and warmly remembered by the many whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Donald's life will be held at 1:00pm Sunday, January 5, at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th Street and Ogden Avenue in Superior, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin one hour prior.
