Donald R.
Walberg
November 21, 1935 – June 20, 2019
Donald R. Walberg, Sr., 83, of Hawthorne, died Thursday, June 20, 2019, unexpectedly at his home.
He was born in Hawthorne on November 21, 1935, the son of Albert and Alice (Olson) Walberg.
Donald and Arlene Cadotte were united in marriage on July 31, 1953.
He served with the Army National Guard and was a crane operator for US Steel until his retirement. Donald was a member of the Steelworkers Union.
Don will always be remembered for his kindness, independence, sense of humor, and his love for family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and machinery, gardening, snowmobiling, fishing, and just putzing around. He was a big deer hunter and taught many of his children and grandchildren how to hunt. You could always count on him if you needed anything. Don made friends wherever he went. He often wouldn't let you know he was going to stop by. The prankster that he was he would often disguise himself, so you never knew it was him. He got such a kick out of teasing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Robert (Doris) Walberg; grandsons, Donavon and Robert Mackey; son-in-law, Jim Weinandt.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Julie (Kurt) Mackey of Brule and Suzanne (Bill) Berscheid of Elk River, MN; sons, Donald Jr. of Hawthorne, Gary (Beth) of Las Vegas, NV, Dennis of Hawthorne, and Wayne 'Kelly' of Hawthorne; and grandchildren, Sherry Lambert, Joanna (Will) Minter, Mary (Kawika) Minter, Matthew (Alyson) Mackey, Aimee (Jason) O'Brien, Erin Walberg, Andrew (Amber) Walberg, Nikki (Dan) Fleischman, Megan Weinandt, Zeb (Tracy) Walberg, Elija (Brittany) Walberg, Michael Weinandt, Mark (Carrie) Weinandt, Jill (Brian) Nelson, Blake (Rachel) Berscheid, Brittney (Ari) Keating, and Brienne (Mike) Berscheid; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Robert, Joshua, Alex, Jonathan, Emily, Karalyn, Loviisa, Ethan, Liam, Hayden, Royce, and Isla; brother, LeRoy (Lyla) Walberg of Superior; sisters-in-law, Darnell Banks and Jackie Krivinchuk both of Superior; brother-in-law, Brian (Linda) Cadotte of Hawthorne; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
His service will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N 19 th Street. Visitation will be on hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hawthorne.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
