Dorothy Mae Hakkinen, age 92, of Superior died Thursday October 29, 2026, at Villa Marina Health Facility with family by her side.

Dorothy was born April 11, 1934, to Peter and Tynne (Rinta) Jarvi. She graduated from Central High School in 1952, with the honor of never missing one day of school, K-12. The day after graduation she started working at Midland Coop where she met the love of her life, Ted Hakkinen. They married in 1964 and celebrated 23 years of marriage before his passing in 1987.

Dorothy was an excellent cook, hosting most holiday parties in her home or Sunday dinners at the cabin on Crystal Lake in Iron River. She also enjoyed simpler things like reading the newspaper front to back as she waited for the mailman. Her day would end by watching her favorite talk show host, David Letterman.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her three brothers, Raymond, Norman, and Harold; three sisters, Sadie Peterson, Hazel Herter, and Nancy Nummi.

Dorothy is survived by her nieces, Lissa (John) Hendricks, Kerstyn Hendricks, Karissa (Matt) Wiklund (Ellie and Johnny Wiklund), Barb (Ron) Stevens and family; nephews, Doug (Julie) Peterson (Lindsey and Craig Jacobson), Donald (Tina) Nummi (Lauren and Jennifer), Christopher and Craig Herter and family, Bruce, Brian and Jeff Jarvi and family. Also, by her favorite roommate, Betty Dickenson.

A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Villa Marina for the excellent care over the past six years. Dorothy loved you all!

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16th from 11:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. memorial service at Downs Life Celebration Center, 1902 N 34th St., Superior. Luncheon immediately following at the Superior Elks Lodge #403, 1503 Belknap Street, Superior.
