Obituary

Douglas Peter Bergstrom, 99, of Lake Nebagamon passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Middle River Health and Rehab Center.

Douglas was born on March 22, 1915 in Lake Nebagamon, the son of Peter and Hilma Bergstrom.  He married Betty Jane Schueler on December 28, 1940 and moved to Milwaukee in 1941 where he worked for Harnischfeger Corp. for 37 years. Doug started as a welder and eventually became an asst. superintendent.  From 1943 to 1945 he served as a shipfitter 2 nd class in the Navy Seabees.

Doug and wife, Betty, retired in 1977 to the home he built, with the help of brother, Luther, on Lake Minnesuing.  Doug and Betty had been married 72 years at the time of Betty's death on March 5, 2013. Both were long time members of Whispering Pines Evangelical Free Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Hilma; wife, Betty; grandson, Anders Groth; sisters, Agnes (Ernest) Miller; Annabelle (Morris) Siegel; June (Alvin) Ignatowski; brothers, Gideon, Simon (Agnes) and Luther (Alphild) Bergstrom.

Douglas is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Peter) Lowe of Batavia, IL and Sandra (Gregory) Groth of Franklin, WI; grandchildren, David (Victoria) Lowe, Jennifer (Michael) Falbo, Steven (Renata) Lowe, Gunnar Groth and Gard Groth; great- grandchildren, Nicholas and Alyssa Lowe, Taia, Nathan and Samuel Falbo; sister, Martha (Joseph/deceased) Varga and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at noon at Whispering Pines Evangelical Free Church in Hawthorne.  Rev. Thomas Lindberg will officiate.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
