Duwayne S. "Steve" Rivord, 66, of Superior, died Friday, June 17, 2011 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's, Duluth.

He was born October 20, 1944 in Superior, son of Oliver and Mary Jane (Olson) Rivord.

Steve's work history included a draftsman for Superwood and for 30 years was a co-owner of Tri-State Industrial Supply.

Most of his life was filled with his love for dirt track racing. The Rivord family has been a part of the local racing scene for several generations. Steve started racing when he was 15 years old, following in his father's footsteps. Steve will be honored into the Superior Speedway Hall of Fame on July 8, 2011. He also enjoyed camping, traveling, and exploring caverns and canyons.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly Flowers; sons, Steven Rivord and Ryan (Becki) Rivord, all of Superior; grandchildren, Renee, Kyle, Tylor, Matthew, Devon, Dean, Payge, Ross and Jack; a great-grandchild is due in November; brothers, Doug (Adona) Rivord, Brooklyn Park, MN, Jerry Rivord, Superior, and Jim (Debi) Rivord, Watertown, MN; sister, Linda Rivord, Superior; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior. Reverend Sarah Kerkes, pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Superior, will officiate.

The committal service will be in the family lot at Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011.
