Obituary

Edna Rebholz Lange passed away peacefully at her home on Monday February 27, 2017.  She was 94 years old.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband Dr. John Lange, identical twin sister Evelyn Armold, and siblings Bill Rebholz and Thora Parker. She is survived by her children Carol Lange, Dr. John (Marge) Lange, Richard (Marilyn) Lange, and Ellen (Mark) Powles; seven grand-daughters Traci (Dr. Dane) Laughlin, Dr. Christina (Dr. Thom) Kintop, Angela (Jerod) Kappes, Julie (Nick) Milroy, Jennifer (Neil) Helenius, Allison Lange Garrison (Dylan Garrison), and Lindsey Lange (Matt Brooke); seventeen great-grandchildren Alex and Noah Laughlin, Mckenzie, Natalie, Sophie and Chloe Kintop, Gabriella, Kallahan and Leightan Kappes, Maverik, Marleigh and MacLane Milroy, Hudsen, Holland and Henleigh Helenius, and Lincoln and August Garrison; sister Leona Selivanoff; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Born August 8, 1922, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, Edna and Evelyn were adopted shortly after birth to the loving care of Dr. Joseph and Myrtie Rebholz. She spent her childhood in Milwaukee.  She earned a degree in chiropractic at the Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri.  Edna married John Lange in 1941, shortly before he left Wisconsin to serve in Europe during World War II.

A devoted parent, Edna adored and championed her children, no one more so than her darling daughter Carol, who has special needs.  Edna and Carol shared a life together at their home near the old Pattison School in Superior.  They enjoyed each other's company, watching game shows and spending time with family.

Edna delighted in her family and enjoyed close contact with their daily lives. She opened her home to spontaneous visits throughout the day, and relatives and friends gratefully dropped by to visit, read the paper, and raid the fridge.  Edna was a generous, spirited host, especially around the holidays when the basement pool table was covered in festive tablecloths and goodies.  She instilled family traditions in each generation, with each bowl of sherbet punch, each gift exchange, each blessing of Grace.

Edna was a deeply spiritual, big-hearted person with a vibrant personal connection to God.  She shared her gift for motivational speaking in every possible venue, from her association with The Lake Superior Interfaith Community Church in Duluth, to a long and fulfilling career of almost 40 years as a Weight Watchers lecturer.  She was highly instrumental in establishing Weight Watchers in Superior.  Edna touched countless lives with her positive attitude and constant optimism. Edna had a thousand pearls of wisdom to offer, and they all revolved around strength, faith, and hope.

Edna's wisdom and warmth will be missed deeply and proclaimed widely by family, loved ones, and everyone blessed to have crossed paths with her.

She will be remembered and celebrated at Cathedral of Christ the King on Saturday, March 4, 2017, with a visitation from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral mass, with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant.

Her family wishes to thank, from the bottom of their hearts, the caregivers and nurses who tended so lovingly and attentively to Edna in her last years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Edna's name to The Special Olympics of Wisconsin or The Humane Society of Douglas County.
